Abstract:In order to study difference of stress levels and stress distribution on femur after total hip replacement, the data of experiments and finite element analyses were recorded. After good agreement was obtained between surface strains from experiments and the finite element analyses, the finite element model was construeted, which provided the capability to determine the stresses on femur. The analysis results showed that total hip replacement reduced evidently the femoral stress levels, changed the stress distribution on femur, and resulted in reduction of femoral elastic modulus. The stresses of femur had relation to cervical length and cervicodiaphyseal angle of femoral implant. It was pointed out particuarly that there was the cycle mode of bone reconstructin in designing femoral implant.
